HeyWhatsNew: Amazon May Launch a New Smartphone & Musk Announces Terafab Chip Production Project

Hey, Heyuppers! The world of tech and innovation is constantly changing, so let’s take a look at all the latest and greatest news since 23/03/2026.

Musk Announces Terafab Semiconductor Project

Elon Musk recently announced a new semiconductor project in Austin, Texas, that will be jointly operated by Tesla Inc. and SpaceX. The "Terafab" initiative will be used to expand the internal chip production process for Musk’s ecosystem of AI, robotics, and aerospace endeavors.

Musk shared that the project is set to produce high-specification 2-nanometer chips, with a priority focus on creating an edge-inference chip optimized for the Optimus robot and robotaxi fleets, and a high-power variant designed for SpaceX and its subsidiary, xAI.

The estimated cost of the project is around US$ 25 billion, with a production target set to 100 to 200 billion custom AI and memory chips per year. The move represents a more insulated and secure trajectory toward private chip production for Musk’s future ventures.

Amazon Set to Launch a New Smartphone

Amazon seems to be on the verge of releasing a new smartphone known internally as “Transformer”, according to sources familiar with the case. The company launched its first smartphone in 2014 with the Fire Phone, which was overseen directly by founder Jeff Bezos. However, the model sold poorly due to the proprietary Fire OS, a complicated multi‑camera screen system, and other reasons, and was cancelled after 14 months.

This new model is now allegedly being developed as a potential mobile personalization device that can sync with home voice assistant Alexa and serve as a conduit to Amazon customers throughout the day. Ultimately, sources say that the phone is another attempt by Amazon to accelerate customers' AI usage either on the device or through Alexa.

Roblox Set to Overhaul Advertising Policies in 2027

Popular video game platform Roblox announced that it would start taking a portion of revenue from in-game brand deals at the start of 2027. This move towards revenue share is part of the platform’s larger advertising policy shift towards a more fruitful e-commerce, socializing, and advertising direction. The company has already announced a new ad format and a partnership with Google last year to grow its nascent ad business.

Effective in January 2027, the revenue share is meant to end what Roblox called a "race to the bottom" on pricing caused by a lack of standardized measurement and price transparency. Under the new framework, creators will be required to register all advertising integrations with Roblox before campaigns go live and submit assets for moderation.

The platform will also be introducing new advertising labels applied directly in its Studio tool, allowing users to report unwanted ads. However, the company also maintains that rewarded advertising formats and certain brand categories, including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and financial services, would be prohibited for users under the age of 13.
