Fujifilm instax mini Evo 2 Brings 4.5-inch Screen at $289

The Fujifilm instax mini Evo 2 hybrid instant camera has been officially announced for $289, with retail availability expected to begin in late November. Geared toward instant photography enthusiasts and casual creators who want digital flexibility before committing to film prints, the new model introduces a significantly larger 4.5-inch touchscreen alongside an updated 16-megapixel CMOS sensor. However, the camera remains constrained by a modest video recording resolution of just 992 × 560 pixels.

Upgraded Touchscreen for Pre-Print Editing

Dominating the rear of the camera is an expansive 4.5-inch touchscreen display boasting a 1.23-million-dot resolution. This generous interface allows users to review their shots carefully before deciding whether to expose physical film, avoiding wasted exposures. In addition to framing and previewing images, the touch interface enables on-device photo cropping and provides access to a creative palette of 20 built-in filters.

Core Imaging Hardware and Exposure Controls

Under the hood, the instax mini Evo 2 is powered by a 1/2.77-inch 16-megapixel CMOS sensor paired with a 21mm equivalent f/2.0 wide-angle prime lens. The camera handles day-to-day shooting with automatic shutter speed and ISO adjustments, while still giving photographers creative command through manual exposure compensation controls. When switching over to moving images, the device captures video clips at 992 × 560 resolution.

Smartphone Connectivity and Expandable Storage

Expanding beyond standalone shooting, the hybrid camera includes dedicated smartphone connectivity. Users can wirelessly transfer photos captured on smartphones or other connected devices directly to the camera to generate instax instant prints on demand. For digital capture, the internal storage holds up to 45 still frames, with an integrated microSD card slot available for those requiring extra capacity.

Does the flexibility of reviewing and cropping shots on a larger 4.5-inch screen justify the jump to a hybrid camera, or do you prefer the unpredictable spontaneity of purely analog instant film?
