The tech giant has threatened to pull services such as FaceTime and iMessage from the UK rather than compromise their security protocols. The UK government is seeking to update the Investigatory Powers Act (IPA) 2016, which would require messaging services to clear security features with the Home Office before releasing them to customers. The act allows the Home Office to demand disabling of security features, without public disclosure. Under the update, this would have to be immediate.
