Bose Unveils New QuietComfort Ultra Headphones with Upgraded ANC and Immersive Audio for $449

Following the update to its QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, Bose has now announced a comprehensive upgrade to its flagship over-ear noise-canceling headphones of the same name. The new model brings significant improvements without an increase in price.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra

The new QuietComfort Ultra headphones boast substantial enhancements in sound quality, active noise cancellation (ANC), battery life, and overall efficiency, all while maintaining the previous generation's launch price. A key feature is the support for lossless audio playback up to 16-bit / 48kHz via a wired USB-C connection, which also serves as a low-latency solution for PC and mobile gaming.

Bose is introducing a new "Cinema Mode" to its Immersive Audio feature. This mode utilizes spatialization and sound balancing to create a wider soundstage that feels like it's in front of the listener, delivering a theater-like immersive experience. It enhances dialogue clarity, making it ideal not only for blockbuster movies but also for podcasts and audiobooks. For daily listening, the headphones promise richer bass and more natural highs at loud volumes, with reduced background noise from the ANC system for a more natural sound in quiet settings.

The noise cancellation technology has also been refined. In "Aware" and "Transparency" modes, the headphones can now more smoothly adapt to sudden environmental noises like sirens. Additionally, users have the flexibility to completely turn off the ANC or manually adjust the level of noise cancellation to their preference.

Battery life sees a notable improvement. The headphones now offer up to 30 hours of use with ANC enabled, which extends to an impressive 45 hours with ANC turned off. If the new Immersive Audio feature is constantly active, the battery will last for 24 hours. The device supports charging via USB-C while in use. To conserve power, the headphones automatically enter standby mode when laid flat or folded and wake up instantly when put back on.

In terms of design, the new model features polished metal on the headband and is available in two new colors: Beige and Purple. The second-generation QuietComfort Ultra Headphones are now available for pre-order on the Bose official website in four color options—Black, White, Beige, and Purple—priced at $449. They are scheduled to be released on October 2nd.
