Samsung Display Hits 5 Million QD-OLED Monitor Panel Milestone, Showcasing Explosive Growth

Samsung Display announced a significant achievement in early April, confirming that it surpassed 5 million cumulative shipments of its Quantum Dot OLED (QD-OLED) panels for monitors in March 2024. This milestone, achieved in just over four years since mass production began in late 2021, highlights the rapidly growing demand for this advanced display technology and has led to its adoption in over 150 different product models.

The growth trajectory of QD-OLED panel shipments reveals a remarkable acceleration. While it took approximately 2.5 years to ship the first one million units, Samsung Display managed to ship the subsequent four million units in less than two years. This surge underscores a powerful market shift towards high-performance display technologies.

This rapid increase in production corresponds to an annualized shipment growth rate exceeding 320%. Such explosive growth is a clear indicator that QD-OLED technology is not only gaining traction but is also becoming a preferred choice in the premium monitor segment, appealing to gamers, content creators, and professionals who demand superior image quality.

Market analysis from research firm Omdia supports this trend. Projections indicate that within the high-end monitor market (products priced over $500), the market share of self-emissive displays, like OLED, is expected to nearly double. By revenue, this share is forecasted to expand from 22% in 2024 to 41%, signaling a fundamental change in consumer and commercial preferences.

Furthermore, Omdia's data positions Samsung Display as the dominant force in this evolving market. The company is projected to capture an impressive 75% market share in the self-emissive display sector by shipment volume in 2025. This commanding position solidifies its leadership and influence over the future of high-end displays.
