Insta360 X5 Launched at $550 With Larger Sensor, Battery, and Replaceable Lens

Insta360 X5 Launched

After debuting the X4, which was Insta360's first 8K 360° camera, the company has introduced its successor, the Insta360 X5. This model sports a larger sensor, an AI-driven low-light mode, improved waterproof capabilities, a bigger battery, and most importantly, interchangeable lenses.

Insta360 X5 design

Specifically, the Insta360 X5 features 1/1.28” sensors that are 144% larger than the 1/2” sensors found in the X3 and X4. This upgrade allows for greater light capture.

The PureVideo feature offers AI-based noise reduction and dynamic range optimization specifically for low-light scenarios, while Active HDR now operates at up to 5.7K 60fps.. The new camera uses a Triple AI Chip system (one 5nm AI chip and two Pro Imaging chips), which provides 140% more processing power compared to the X4.

Most video recording modes remain similar to the X4, with the maximum resolution set at 8K at 30fps and 60fps available at 5.7K. One improvement is that you can get 120fps at 4K resolution (up from 100fps on the X4). PureVideo works up to 8K at 30fps and 5.7K also at 30fps (not 60fps).

A new feature called InstaFrame captures two videos simultaneously: one flat video ready for immediate posting (either fixed direction or with auto-tracking to keep the subject centered) and a full 360° video (up to 5.7K 30fps) that can be reframed later.

Insta360 X5 features

The X5 has an IP68 rating for water resistance up to 15m/49ft without needing a dive housing, an increase from the X4's 10m/33ft rating. A new steel mesh Wind Guard and enhanced algorithms also help to reduce wind noise.

Insta360 X5 features

Insta360 has also released a compact wireless microphone that clips to clothing and serves as a remote to start recording, even if the camera is out of reach, such as when using the new 3m invisible selfie stick.

The new interchangeable lenses are made from high-strength, scratch-resistant glass. If a lens is scratched, replacements can be purchased for $30 and easily swapped at home. Lens guards are also available for easier replacement in the field.

Insta360 X5 features

Battery life has also seen an upgrade, with the new 2,400mAh battery lasting up to 187 minutes in 5.7K at 24fps mode—a 37% increase over the X4. In the top 8K 30fps mode, recording time is 88 minutes, compared to 75 minutes for the X4's 2,290mAh battery. The X5 supports fast charging, reaching 80% in just 20 minutes (100% in 35 minutes) with a 30W USB-C charger.

Insta360 X5 features

The Insta360 X5 is now available for purchase on the company's online store, priced at $550/€590 for the standard bundle. Various bundles are also offered based on different usage scenarios, such as for motorcycle, snowboarding, or diving adventures. The X5 can also be found on Amazon and at other retailers.
