Samsung Reportedly Scraps Galaxy S26 Edge, Reinstates the S26+ Model

According to a recent report from SamMobile, industry sources have confirmed that Samsung has abandoned its plan to replace the Galaxy S26+ with a Galaxy S26 Edge model. This decision marks a significant pivot in the company's strategy for its upcoming flagship smartphone series.

This development aligns with an earlier report from NewsPim, which stated that a Samsung executive confirmed the cancellation of the Galaxy S26 Edge. The primary reason cited for this change is the underwhelming sales performance of its predecessor, the Galaxy S25 Edge, prompting the company to reconsider its lineup.

Initially, Samsung was reportedly developing four models for the Galaxy S26 series: a base version, a Plus model, an Edge variant, and the top-tier Ultra. However, after evaluating the market's tepid response to the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung has decided to discontinue the Edge variant for the next generation. Consequently, the Galaxy S26+ is set to make a return to fill its traditional spot in the lineup.

This strategic shift means Samsung's flagship S series will revert to its long-standing three-model structure. Consumers can expect to see the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra, a familiar and proven formula that has defined the lineup for many years.

The report also shed some light on the potential processors for the new devices. The standard Galaxy S26 is expected to feature Samsung's first 2nm chip, the Exynos 2600. The premium Galaxy S26 Ultra will likely be equipped with a higher-clocked version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. As of now, there has been no information leaked regarding the processor for the returning Galaxy S26+.

Further corroborating these claims, Korean media outlet The Elec reported earlier this month, citing sources in the upstream component supply chain, that Samsung had initiated a new smartphone project codenamed “M Plus.” This codename is believed to correspond directly to the development of the previously shelved Galaxy S26+ model.
