Google Tightens Its Ecosystem: Clock App Becomes a Pixel Watch Exclusive

Following a report from tech outlet 9to5Google on October 30th, Google's Clock app for the Wear OS platform, which includes essential features like an alarm, timer, and stopwatch, has now been made an exclusive feature for the Pixel Watch.

This strategic move means that all other brands of Wear OS smartwatches, aside from Google's own Pixel Watch, will no longer be able to download the app from the Play Store or receive any future updates for it. This decision follows a similar strategy implemented earlier for the Google Weather app, further cementing the Pixel Watch's special position within the Google ecosystem.

The Google Clock app integrates the three core functions of alarm, timer, and stopwatch. The report confirms that the application is now "no longer available for download on Wear OS smartwatches." For new users or those who had not previously installed the app, it has effectively vanished from the Play Store on non-Pixel devices.

For users who already have the Google Clock app installed on their non-Pixel Watch devices, the app itself will continue to function. However, they will no longer receive any official updates from the Play Store, leaving them with the current version indefinitely.

In response to this change, Google's official recommendation for affected users is to either use the default clock application provided by their watch's manufacturer or to explore the Play Store for other feature-rich third-party clock apps as alternativ
