Qualcomm's Oryon Custom CPU Cores to Expand to Lower-Tier Snapdragon 7 Series

At the 2025 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm made waves by introducing the Snapdragon X2 Elite (Extreme) and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip platforms, both powered by Qualcomm’s self-developed Oryon series custom CPU cores. These advanced cores, which mark a significant shift in Qualcomm’s chip design strategy, promise greater flexibility and enhanced performance.

According to a report by German media outlet ComputerBase, Alex Katouzian, General Manager of Qualcomm's MCX Group, revealed that the Oryon CPU will also be applied to Qualcomm's lower-tier product lines, such as the Snapdragon 7 series, in the future. However, specific details and products related to this expansion were not discussed at the summit. Expanding the application of Oryon CPUs will help Qualcomm reduce its reliance on Arm's "off-the-shelf" CPU designs, offering greater flexibility in performance settings. Additionally, increasing the shipment scale of Oryon cores will further spread out the R&D costs.

How do you think the inclusion of Oryon CPUs in the Snapdragon 7 series will impact the performance and pricing of future mid-range smartphones? Will this change the game for budget-conscious consumers?
