Can the Honor Magic V5 Become a Hit with Its Ultra-Thin Design? Priced at $1250!

On July 2, 2025, Honor held the Magic V5 and AI Terminal Ecosystem Launch Event in Shenzhen. During the event, Honor CEO George Zhao unveiled the Magic V5, Honor MagicPad 3, Honor MagicBook Art 14, and Honor Watch 5 Ultra series.

The star of the show was undoubtedly the Honor Magic V5, touted as the thinnest (horizontally folding) foldable phone on the market. It measures a mere 8.8mm when folded and an astonishing 4.1mm when unfolded, outperforming 95% of its competitors in terms of slimness.

Weighing in at just 217g, the Magic V5 significantly reduces the heft typically associated with foldable phones. This achievement is attributed to three key innovations.

Firstly, the new Qinghai Lake Blade Battery utilizes a silicon-carbon anode with a silicon content of 25%, far exceeding the industry average of around 5%. This allows for a higher energy density within the same battery size.

Secondly, the precision-engineered hinge, refined since the Magic V2, now benefits from an AI model that elevates manufacturing precision to the micron level (0.003mm). This ensures a seamless fit between the two display halves. The Magic V5 leads folding technology into the micro-level era.

Thirdly, a novel back cover material, crafted from the same special fiber used in aerospace tethering ropes (0.014mm diameter), provides a lightweight yet incredibly strong and durable finish.

Despite its focus on thinness, the Magic V5 doesn't compromise on features. It boasts a flagship-level camera system with a 50MP main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 64MP periscope telephoto lens, enhanced by new algorithms for superior image capture and editing.

A standout feature is the new YOYO intelligent assistant, which proactively anticipates user needs and provides services, evolving from passive question answering to active assistance. For instance, when asked to "quickly get a taxi home," YOYO can simultaneously hail rides from multiple platforms and automatically cancel redundant bookings based on real-time traffic conditions. Also, powered by the Snapdragon 8 leading version processor, performance is uncompromising.

The device features a 6.45-inch external screen and a 7.95-inch 2K LTPO adaptive refresh rate internal screen, supporting 5000nits peak brightness, 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and HDR Vivid/Dolby Vision/Zreal.

The Magic V5 is equipped with a large 5950mAh battery (6100mAh for the 1TB version), complemented by 66W wired and 50W wireless charging, compatible with multiple car brands' 50W wireless charging pads.

The Honor Magic V5 prioritizes all-around performance and productivity, setting it apart from competitors focused solely on technical specifications.

The Honor Magic V5 is priced as follows:

  • 12+256GB: $1250
  • 16+512GB: $1400
  • 16+1TB: $1540

In addition to the Magic V5, Honor also introduced the MagicBook Art 14 2025, MagicPad 3, and Watch 5 Ultra.

Overall, Honor's new products emphasize both sleek designs and enhanced AI capabilities, addressing key consumer priorities. By focusing on practicality and user experience, Honor differentiates itself and drives innovation in the foldable phone market and beyond.
