Lenovo Unveils AI Desk Companions at MWC 2026: Scanning, Projecting, and Organizing Your Workday

At MWC 2026, alongside its new laptops and concept models, Lenovo introduced two innovative AI-based productivity assistant concepts. These standalone desktop devices are designed not only as digital assistants to boost office efficiency but also to introduce a more 'human-like' and companionable experience to the workplace.

The first concept, named the AI Workmate, is described by Lenovo as an "always-on desktop partner." The device features a design resembling a small robotic arm on a rotating base, topped with a circular screen that displays expressions. Leveraging local AI processing, users can interact with it through voice and gestures, making it a highly intuitive smart assistant.

Beyond simple interactions, the Workmate Concept is built for practical office tasks. It is equipped with a camera that can scan physical notes or documents, then automatically generate summaries, organize thoughts, or directly convert the content into a PowerPoint presentation. Furthermore, the device includes a projection feature, allowing it to cast content onto a desk or wall for easy sharing and collaboration.

The second device, the AI Work Companion Concept, has an appearance closer to a modern desktop clock and focuses primarily on task management. This device uses AI to consolidate a user's schedules and tasks from various devices to create a structured daily work plan. To help prevent burnout, the system monitors screen time and reminds users to take breaks, using animated expressions to enhance the interactive experience. It also generates a weekly task completion report to provide a strong feedback loop.

Additionally, the Work Companion doubles as a docking station, optimizing desk space and connectivity. It features an HDMI port to connect a laptop to multiple monitors and provides several USB ports for charging various devices, decluttering the workspace.

Lenovo has a history of turning concept products into commercial devices, such as the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 with its extendable rolling screen which launched last year. However, Lenovo has not yet confirmed whether these two AI productivity assistant concepts will enter mass production, leaving their future market availability an open question.
