In a recent interview with Mashable on October 21, Xbox President Sarah Bond shared her vision for the future of the Xbox console, discussing the platform's current state and outlining a bold new direction for its next generation.

Bond began by expressing her team's excitement over the recent launch of the ROG Xbox Ally series handheld. She praised the device for allowing players to take their Xbox library anywhere, highlighting its ergonomic design. "Holding this handheld with your eyes closed feels just like holding an Xbox controller, only slightly heavier," she remarked.

When asked about the nature of the next-generation console, Bond made it clear that Microsoft is aiming for the premium market. "We will meticulously craft an extremely high-end, top-tier experience for the next-generation console," she stated, signaling a focus on powerful performance and a premium user experience.

Furthermore, Bond hinted at a significant strategic shift away from console exclusivity. She described the practice of confining a game to a single console as "outdated." Instead, the team's primary focus will be on cloud gaming and enhancing the diversity and playability of the XGP (Xbox Game Pass) ecosystem, suggesting a future where games are more accessible across various platforms.

Supporting this high-end vision, Microsoft has already announced its continued partnership with AMD to develop the next console. The next-generation Xbox will reportedly feature the latest Magnus APU, which utilizes an advanced chiplet architecture with separate CPU and GPU dies. These components will be connected via a 384-bit bus, a design intended to balance power consumption and cost while delivering powerful performance.

This direction aligns with previous information from leaker SneakersSO, who stated in 2023 that Microsoft's new Xbox would not position itself as a direct competitor to Sony and Nintendo. Instead, it would become a high-performance platform targeting high-end enthusiast gamers. If this proves true, the production volume of the new console may be relatively limited.
