Lu Weibing, a key executive at Xiaomi, explained the motivation behind this new model. He noted that while the standard flagship series, from the Xiaomi 12 to the upcoming Xiaomi 17, has been highly successful, there has been persistent user feedback requesting a larger-screen variant. The Xiaomi 17 Max is the company's answer, described as a "Comprehensive First-Class Upgrade" over the standard Xiaomi 17.
According to Lu Weibing, this "upgrade" is far more than just a larger screen and battery. The Xiaomi 17 Max promises a full-scale enhancement across all key areas. This includes a "Camera Max" with a new main sensor for superior imaging, a "Screen Max" that is not only larger but also features top-tier quality, and a "Performance Max" driven by a flagship platform and advanced cooling systems for powerful, sustained performance.
The most significant highlight is the "Battery Max." The company is claiming that the Xiaomi 17 Max will feature the strongest battery life in Xiaomi's history. This bold statement is supported by recent leaks suggesting the phone could be equipped with a massive 8000mAh-level battery, a capacity that would set a new standard for flagship smartphones.
Beyond the battery, other rumored specifications point to a truly top-tier device. The Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 platform. Its 6.9-inch display is rumored to be a 1.5K panel with symmetrical, ultra-narrow bezels. The camera system is said to feature a 200MP main sensor paired with a 50MP telephoto macro lens.
