Honor's New Identity: A Robotics Company with a Robot Phone and Humanoid at MWC 2026

As the dust settled on CES in Las Vegas, the tech world's attention shifted to Barcelona for MWC 2026. This event, focused on mobile intelligent devices, sets the tone for the industry for the entire year. Amid the growing excitement around embodied intelligence, Honor made a significant splash by introducing not only a new robot but also a revolutionary "Robot Phone."

Honor's Robot Phone features a unique design where half of the rear camera module is replaced with a complete gimbal system. Activated by a sliding cover, the gimbal's lens rises with a faint hum, ready for action. Integrating this mechanical structure into a slim phone body was made possible by Honor's expertise in materials science and precision engineering, honed through its development of foldable screens. The company claims it engineered the industry's smallest motor, 70% smaller than existing micro-motors, to power the gimbal's smooth operation.

This mechanical marvel is paired with impressive imaging technology. The gimbal camera boasts a 200MP CMOS sensor, which, aided by AI, can lock onto and track subjects in real-time. An AI SpinShot feature allows the lens to perform smooth 180-degree rotations. Alongside the gimbal, the phone is expected to include an ultra-wide and a periscope telephoto lens. Honor also announced a partnership with ARRI, the renowned cinema camera brand, to bring its professional color science and workflow to mobile imaging, promising natural colors and cinematic light and shadow effects.

Beyond photography, the gimbal serves as a physical gateway for the phone's AI to perceive the world. Demonstrations at MWC showed the AI using the camera to understand its surroundings and interact with users through physical gestures like nodding and shaking its head. The Honor Robot Phone is slated for an initial launch in the Chinese market in the second half of this year.

Alongside the Robot Phone, Honor also showcased its new flagship foldable, the Magic V6. While visually similar to its predecessor with a 7.95-inch inner and 6.52-inch outer screen, the device features key internal upgrades, including the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. The focus of this iteration wasn't just on shaving off millimeters—though at 8.75mm thick, it is slightly slimmer than its main competitor—but on meaningful enhancements in durability, battery life, and screen experience. The Magic V6 boasts an impressive IP68/69 dust and water resistance rating, a new benchmark for foldable devices.

Inside its slim frame, the Magic V6 houses a massive 6660 mAh silicon-carbon battery with 80W fast charging, offering a significant advantage over competitors who are still around the 4400-5000 mAh mark. Screen improvements include a 44% reduction in the inner screen's crease, more durable nano-crystal glass on the outer display, an anti-reflective coating, and Honor’s signature 4320Hz high-frequency PWM dimming. Furthermore, MagicOS 10 on Android 16 introduces seamless cross-platform connectivity, allowing file transfers with iPhones and Macs, and even pushing notifications to an Apple Watch.

Perhaps the most futuristic reveal was the Honor Robot. The humanoid robot took the stage to perform a dance routine, complete with a Michael Jackson moonwalk and a backflip. Beyond the impressive acrobatics, Honor outlined three practical applications for the robot: shopping assistance, work inspections, and emotional companionship. CEO Li Jian explained the vision behind this move: "If smartphones are an extension of the human mind, then robots are an extension of our hands. AI must enter the physical world."

Honor's bold moves at MWC 2026 are a clear strategic effort to establish a "pioneer explorer" identity in the fiercely competitive smartphone market, where it held the sixth position with 13.4% market share in 2025, according to Counterpoint Research. The experimental Robot Phone and the sci-fi-inspired humanoid robot are powerful tools to elevate the brand's profile. These products point to a unified vision: AI's future lies not just behind a glass screen but in the physical world. By giving AI a movable "neck" with the Robot Phone and "limbs" with its humanoid, Honor is leading a charge to bring tangible, physical interaction back to the forefront of technology.
