Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max to Debut Innovative 'Miaoxiang Back Screen'

Xiaomi has officially confirmed a groundbreaking feature for its upcoming flagship lineup. The highly anticipated Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models will be equipped with a brand-new secondary display on the rear of the device, dubbed the "Miaoxiang Back Screen." This announcement signals a significant step forward in smartphone design and functionality for the company.

An official promotional poster released by the company provides a first look at the new feature in action. The image showcases the back screen's ability to display essential information such as the time and notifications. Crucially, it also highlights its function as a high-quality viewfinder, allowing users to take selfies using the powerful main camera system, a feature that promises to elevate the self-portrait experience.

While a rear display isn't an entirely new concept for Xiaomi—the Mi 11 Ultra famously included a small secondary screen for similar purposes—the naming of the new feature suggests a much deeper integration. The term "Miaoxiang" (妙享), which translates to "Wonderful Share" or "Magic Share," is closely associated with Xiaomi's ecosystem for seamless cross-device connectivity, hinting that this new screen will offer enhanced interoperability with other Xiaomi products.

According to leaks from reliable sources like Digital Chat Station, the "Miaoxiang Back Screen" is an independent, low-power display with Always-On Display (AOD) capabilities. It is expected to be highly customizable, capable of showing a wide range of information including time, weather, notifications, music playback details, step counts, and even personalized text and images.

Beyond passive information display, the screen is designed for practical interaction. It will reportedly allow for quick actions without needing to wake the main display, such as answering calls or capturing photos instantly. Its primary interactive function, however, remains its use as a viewfinder for the rear camera, enabling users to capture superior selfies and vlogs.

The Xiaomi 17 series is shaping up to be a technological powerhouse, with a launch anticipated in December. It is expected to be among the first wave of smartphones powered by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor. Other rumored specifications include a 2K equal-depth micro-curved display, an upgraded periscope telephoto lens, an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, satellite communication support, and a high-density silicon anode battery.
