Meta Platforms Technologies, the division responsible for research and hardware intellectual property at Meta, has recently published a new patent application that is drawing significant attention. The filing details an AI system capable of identifying faces and recording human behavior through a camera, further intensifying concerns about the privacy risks associated with future smart glasses.
The patent describes an intelligent imaging system that combines a camera with a sophisticated AI engine. This system is designed to recognize specific individuals within its field of view, analyze their actions, and compile the relevant data into searchable media clips accessible via a smartphone or head-mounted display. According to the patent's description, the system's camera captures either live or pre-recorded video footage, which is then transmitted to the AI for processing. A facial recognition module analyzes the video to determine not only if a person is present but also to identify who that specific individual is.
Building on this, an action recognition module analyzes the subject's behavior, identifying movements such as picking up an object, leaving a room, or gathering with other people.
