Nintendo Switch 2 Sees Permanent Price Drop in France

In a rare move, Nintendo has permanently reduced the price of its Nintendo Switch 2 in the French market by 50 euros, according to well-known leaker billbil-kun. This price adjustment has already been implemented by some retailers.

Price Changes

  • The standalone version of the Nintendo Switch 2 has been reduced from 469.99 euros to 419 euros.

  • The bundle version, which includes a game, has been lowered from 499 euros to 469 euros.

This change makes the bundle version more attractive, as purchasing the bundle only costs an additional 50 euros compared to the standalone console. Given that Nintendo's first-party games typically retail for 60 to 70 euros each, the bundle now offers a better deal for consumers.

Strategic Move

This price reduction is part of a long-term strategy rather than a short-term promotion. It marks a significant departure from Nintendo's usual practice of maintaining the original launch price. This move contrasts sharply with recent actions by competitors: Sony recently increased the price of the PS5 Slim in the US, and Microsoft also raised the prices of the Xbox Series X/S.

Strong Market Performance

Despite the price drop, Nintendo Switch 2 continues to perform strongly in the market. As of the end of August 2025, global sales of the console have reached 8.6 million units, surpassing the sales figures of the original Switch during the same period. This indicates that the price reduction is a strategic move to enhance the appeal of the bundle and solidify market share, rather than a response to declining sales.

This move by Nintendo demonstrates its willingness to adapt to market dynamics and stay competitive in the gaming console market.
