Samsung Executive Accidentally Reveals Galaxy Z TriFold Prototype with a Quad-Camera Setup

In an unexpected turn of events, a social media post celebrating the launch of Samsung's first tri-folding phone has offered a glimpse into its development process. Omar Saheb, Vice President of Marketing & E-commerce for Samsung Electronics in the MENA region, recently posted on LinkedIn to mark the release of the Galaxy Z TriFold.

While the post was meant to celebrate the new device, sharp-eyed followers quickly noticed a significant difference between the phone in Saheb's hands and the version available to consumers. The device he was holding featured a distinct quad-camera array on its back, a departure from the triple-camera system found on the final retail model.

Given that a second-generation Galaxy Z TriFold is likely a long way off, the prevailing theory is that the device pictured is one of the many internal prototypes Samsung developed and tested before finalizing the product for mass production. A closer look at the image reveals that the fourth camera at the bottom of the module is noticeably thinner than the other three, suggesting it was part of an experimental configuration.

For context, the official retail version of the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold features an inward-folding design to protect the main display and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. When unfolded, its thinnest point measures just 3.9mm. The device is equipped with a 5600mAh triple-cell battery that supports 45W Super Fast Charging.

The official camera system on the launched Galaxy Z TriFold consists of a 200MP main sensor capable of 2x optical-quality zoom, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Both the cover screen and the internal main screen feature 10MP front-facing cameras. The appearance of this quad-camera prototype provides a fascinating, albeit unintentional, peek behind the curtain at the iterative design process behind Samsung's most ambitious foldable device yet.
