SwitchBot, known for its innovative smart home products, has a fairly broad range of products, and in addition to various smart home products, there are also robots and cameras. Now another new product has been introduced: the SwitchBot Universal Remote. A universal remote control that is also compatible with Matter after being paired with a hub from the manufacturer.

The remote control sports a minimalist black and white design in line with the brand's other products, while it weighs 133g and measures 50 × 27 × 190 mm. It has a 2.4 inch LCD screen which is there to display the different devices that can be controlled or the functions available.

The central selector or Touch Wheel makes it very easy to select the device to be controlled. The other buttons allow you to launch commands or change menus. SwitchBot announces that they have taken care to work on ergonomics so that you cannot press its buttons by mistake.

In order to keep the price low, the SwitchBot universal remote control is not equipped with a touch screen. The choice of the device to control is made by activating the touch wheel on the remote control. You can select devices and scenes by lightly touching the wheel and moving it with your finger.

SwitchBot universal remote is equipped with a 1m USB cable which will be used for charging. It is only displays the battery level while charging or when the device power is below 20%. So, if you don't see the battery icon on the screen, it means your device has enough power at the moment. The 2000mAh lithium-ion battery is claimed to provide a runtime of 150 days (5 months). However, this figure is based on cumulative daily usage of 10 minutes per day.

The SwitchBot Universal Remote works with the brand's curtains, switches and robot vacuum cleaners of course. You can use the universal remote to control SwitchBot brand Bluetooth home devices , and ask SwitchBot Curtain to open your curtains, SwitchBot Bot to press your light switch, or even Blind Tilt to open the blinds to let bring in sunlight, all without the need for a smart assistant or smartphone to control them.

It is also intended to replace infrared remote controls for air conditioners, televisions and other IR devices. If today it can control Apple TVs or Fire TVs, it will also support Roku, NVIDIA shield and Android TV in the future.

The SwitchBot universal remote's infrared signal can reach up to 13.5 meters when controlling household appliances if the appliances are directly within the remote's firing angle. As with all IR remote controls, the distance will inevitably decrease if the remote control is not aimed directly at the front of the devices to be controlled.
