Xiaomi 16 Rumored to Feature Flat Screen With LIPO Technology For Thinner Edges
Although its launch is still far away – with the 15 series having been announced just under a month ago- the Xiaomi 16 line has already started to receive the first market spotlight, surrounded by rumors. Now, a new rumor indicates that the new devices will have flat screens, manufactured with LIPO technology.
The news came from leaker Kartikey Singh in posts on his X account (or ex-Twitter, if you prefer). According to him, Xiaomi will abandon the screen with curved corners seen since the Xiaomi Mi 9 in favor of a completely straight display. In addition, the brand will use LIPO technology in the manufacturing of the screen of all devices in the line in search of thinner edges. Check out the posts:
The possible novelty raised questions from some of Singh's followers, curious to know whether the change to straight corners was due to a possible cut in production costs. In response, the leaker says no. With the plans to use LIPO, the expectation is to achieve a bezel that, combined with the frame of the device, is around 1.2mm thick, with all corners symmetrical. And this manufacturing process would be quite expensive.
LIPO technology was first used by Apple with the Apple Watch Series 7, and later moved to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. In the Android world, the OPPO Find X8 and the Xiaomi 15 itself are among the devices that have also been targeted by the feature.
LIPO – an acronym for Low-Injection Pressure Over-molding – is a new display packaging technique that involves encapsulating liquids using polymeric materials that are then solidified. This creates a firm bond between the polymer, the display screen, and the device’s intermediate structure.
As a result, the technique provides a thinner border for the screen, better protection for the wiring that connects the display, and a bolder design for the device.
But Singh didn't stop there. Contrary to previous rumors, the leaker brought information about the possible screen sizes of the devices. According to him, while the Xiaomi 16 Pro and Xiaomi 16 Ultra should feature larger screens, with 6.8 inches or more, the Xiaomi 16 should maintain the screen size seen in the current generation, with 6.36 inches.
With this, the brand should continue to serve various audiences, from those who like larger cell phones to those who prefer more compact options.
But outside of the display, the Xiaomi 16 line has also been widely talked about. The devices should have maximum performance, equipped with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, and should be lighter than the current generation, with 3D-printed frames.
As usual, the Chinese brand did not comment on the rumors. So, at least for now, all this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
