Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Detachable Leaks: A Modern Refresh with Classic Features

Ahead of its expected debut at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, a series of detailed renders for the upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Detachable have been shared by the tech outlet Windows Latest. These images provide a comprehensive look at the 2-in-1 laptop's design, revealing significant upgrades and the retention of iconic ThinkPad features.

The most noticeable change from its predecessor, the X12 Detachable, is the modern aesthetic achieved through significantly narrower screen bezels. This design choice allows for a larger 13-inch display, up from the previous 12.3-inch screen, without drastically increasing the device's overall footprint. The result is a more immersive and contemporary look.

Lenovo appears to be prioritizing connectivity and practicality for business users. The renders show USB-C ports (presumed to be Thunderbolt 4) on both the left and right sides, offering flexible charging and accessory options. The device also retains a 3.5mm audio jack and a Kensington lock slot. Furthermore, the four visible screws on the bottom of the chassis suggest a design that may offer better repairability than many of its competitors.

While exact performance specifications remain unconfirmed, industry expectations are high. Given that the previous model featured up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, it is widely anticipated that the X13 Detachable will be equipped with Intel's latest Panther Lake chips. An upgrade to the battery, which was 42Whr in the predecessor, is also expected to improve endurance.

The keyboard design introduces a notable innovation. Unlike the flat connection of devices like the Microsoft Surface Pro, the X13 Detachable's magnetic keyboard features a unique tilted structure. This angled design provides a more ergonomic typing experience and enhances stability when used on a lap. Crucially, the keyboard retains the soul of the ThinkPad: the iconic TrackPoint "red dot" and its accompanying physical buttons. A redesigned, space-saving pen slot is also integrated into the keyboard folio.

Security is another key focus, with the X13 Detachable offering robust, multi-layered protection. The front-facing camera is equipped with a mechanical privacy shutter. For biometric authentication, the device features a circular fingerprint reader integrated next to the trackpad and an IR camera, providing dual Windows Hello support for secure and convenient login.
