Back in July, it was reported that Huawei was developing a device that could fold the screen into three parts. It was speculated that this move would give the Chinese company a boost in the foldable smartphone segment, especially when it competes with other brands like Samsung and Xiaomi, but Huawei has not commented on the report.

But now we have the first proof that the Chinese manufacturer is going to launch such a product. Recently, Chinese media revealed a photo of Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei's Consumer BG, using a smartphone that looks similar to the device mentioned above.

The image reveals a Huawei smartphone that can fold the screen into three parts, with a hole punched in the middle of the screen and the right side to install the camera.

It was also found that the smartphone has two hinges and a double-folded screen crease, which is different from the current foldable smartphones that only use one hinge, such as the Huawei Mate X5, Vivo X Fold3 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6.

Digital Chat Station, an insider reporter from a reliable source in China, said that the smartphone in Yu's hand appears to be a prototype from Huawei's R&D department that the source has previously seen. The screen is expected to be as large as 10 inches and may use the potential of Huawei's Kirin 9 series chipset to process work.

However, Digital Chat Station claims that Huawei may officially unveil the three-part foldable smartphone before launching the Huawei Mate 70 series flagship smartphone in mid-Q4 2024. It is not yet known whether this phone will be released globally or only available for the Chinese market, which is its country of origin.

Additionally, In July on X (formerly Twitter), tipster Ice Universe suggested that Huawei could become the world’s first company to launch a three-part foldable smartphone. Samsung, which has one of the oldest foldable smartphone lineups on the market, was said to be lagging behind due to its struggles to make standard foldable phones thinner. At the time, the tipster suggested that Huawei would not have “any competitors for a long time after launch.”
